About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sales Engineer to join our dynamic team at Systel. This position is responsible for assisting Sales with reviewing customer requirements and providing technical input in support of RFI/RFQ responses. The Sales Engineer will also support customer meetings, demos, and inquiries—both online and in person.

This position is part of the Sales Department at Systel and reports to the VP of Sales. This position is 100% in-person at our headquarters in Sugar Land, TX.  Subject to Systel needs, meeting initial training requirements, and maintaining productivity expectations, the employee may be eligible to work from home one day per week.

You are confident in front of customers, whether explaining detailed specifications to engineers or delivering polished presentations to executives. You collaborate naturally across Sales, Product, and Engineering, and you don’t shy away from rolling up your sleeves to dive into technical requirements analysis, CAD models, or BOMs. You are proactive, organized, and energized by helping customers achieve mission success with rugged, reliable computing solutions.

The Work
  • Pre-Sales Technical Support
    • Lead technical discovery with customers. Translate needs into clear problem statements and technical requirements.
    • Provide support in reviewing customer Request for Information (RFI), Request for Quote (RFQ), Request for Proposal (RFP), Source Control Document (SCD), and other customer related technical documents.
    • Assist with reviewing and creating formal quotations in accordance with customer requirements.
    • Provide product concepts and models to support the RFI/RFQ response.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Assist with creating and reviewing Requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM) upon customer order received.
    • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure departmental alignment and clear handoffs; stay up-to-date on the latest hardware developments.
    • Keep up to date with the new Systel products and configurations released.
  • Customer and Market Engagement
    • Assist sales teams with customer conference calls or onsite visits
    • Travel with the sales teams, as needed, to present and demonstrate the products to prospects at all levels within the organization.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
    • Attend trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events to promote products and keep up-to-date with industry trends, market activities, and the competitive landscape.
  • Process and Systems
    • Meet or exceed assigned sales targets and KPIs.
    • Maintain internal correspondence/workflow and action items using various internal systems.
    • Follow all Systel policies, processes, and procedures and where applicable, help maintain and optimize processes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree in Engineering or other related technical fields.
  • 5+ years experience supporting Sales team and reviewing customer requirements.  
  • Strong pre & post sales support experience including onsite customer visits.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting RFI/RFQ/quotes and reviewing technical documents (SCDs, drawings, BOMs, compliance matrices).
  • Experience working with Sales, Product Development, and Engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of ruggedized computer and peripheral system applications.
  • Working knowledge of compliance matrix, parts drawings, and Bill of Materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to tailor depth to audience.
  • Ability to build strong long-term relationships with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage and set priorities to meet the customer’s expectations.
  • Comfortable balancing competing demands and progressing several workstreams simultaneously; successful multitasker
  • Strong leadership skills; self-starter.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice (approx 10-25%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience as a Sales Engineer, FAE, or in Technical Support.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD for concepting and fit checks.
  • Background in ruggedized computing or mission-critical electronics.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and Jira.
